Meet the Directors

Doug and Erin have over 60 years of Mount Tom experience combined as campers, counselors, group leaders and  administrators.  They’re year-round camp professionals who work passionately to guarantee the greatest possible summer for each camper.

Doug Volan, Owner/Director, has been at Mount Tom for over 40 consecutive summers. His vision for the camp has been shaped by his deep and personal understanding of how a positive camp experience can influence a child’s sense of well-being and self-esteem. Doug, an attorney at law, has served as President of the New York State Camp Directors Association, President of the Rockland/ Westchester Day Camp Association, Organizational Advancement Oversight Chair of the American Camp Association and is a member of the Westchester County Camp Advisory Council. In these various positions, he has established himself as a leader in the camp industry.

Erin Dutton began her professional career as a teenage counselor at Mount Tom Day Camp and has been here for over 25 years. It was her experiences at Mount Tom that led her to pursue a career in education. Her passion for creating age-appropriate programs and her commitment to ensuring our philosophy is carried out has helped maximize the camper experience. She is also the mother of two campers who will be going into their 10th summer at Mount Tom.

It is obvious that you expend great effort and care to maximize each child’s camp experience. You’re very accessible and helpful, which is much appreciated. – Parent of 7 and 11 year old campers (third year campers)
